Slovenian Jewelry Week 2024 at Center Rog
We are delighted to host the Slovenian Jewelry Week this year, taking place from May 9th to May 20th, 2024. The Slovenian Jewelry Week - SIJW connects contemporary Slovenian and foreign jewelry designers. It's a platform where creativity, knowledge, and innovation intertwine. It serves as a link between the past, present, and future. It celebrates art, hard work, and passion. It showcases contemporary jewelry that reflects the thoughts, ideas, and personalities of the creators. It's a space where we can feel the creative vision of designers and currently the only event in Slovenia that promotes contemporary jewelry design and its creators.
This year's theme for the Jewelry Week is SENSATIONS. What are the feelings we experience when communicating with jewelry through our senses? What sensations do people experience when interacting with jewelry? What emotions are evoked by the weight of jewelry on the skin, the texture of used materials, the temperature of metal, precious stones, and other materials? What emotions do we feel when touching certain pieces of jewelry - is it joy, trust, sentimental attachment, or negative emotions such as disgust, fear...?
As part of the Slovenian Jewelry Week, numerous exhibitions, courses, workshops, lectures, and guided tours will take place. The Jewelry Week will connect several Slovenian cities, with events taking place in Ljubljana, Izola, Slovenj Gradec, Menges, Tržič, Rogaška Slatina, Medana, and Bled.
- Central Exhibition at Center Rog
At Center Rog, we will host the central exhibition of the Slovenian Jewelry Week from May 9th to May 20th, featuring both Slovenian jewelry designers and foreign guests. The grand opening of the exhibition will take place on Friday, May 10th, at 6 p.m.
- Accompanying Program - Masterclasses, Lectures, Roundtable Discussion
As part of the accompanying program, two masterclasses will be held at Center Rog. In the first one, Naomi Clarke (UK) will present jewelry making using the wet enamel technique. Naomi's masterclass will take place on Thursday, May 9th. In the second masterclass, participants will learn about the experimental technique of stone setting with soldered wires under the guidance of Anastasia Young (UK). The latter will be held on Tuesday, May 14th.
Guest jewelry masters will also hold two lectures at Center Rog. On Friday, May 10th, Naomi Clark will address the role of jewelry in family, institutional, and civic collections. Anastasia Young will speak about her experiences as a jewelry artist, educator, author, and photographer, with a special emphasis on the importance of community and networks. Anastasia Young's lecture will take place on Monday, May 13th.
A roundtable discussion titled "Heritage of the Past, Current Present, and Future Vision of Jewelry Design and Production" will also be organized during the Slovenian Jewelry Week. The interdepartmental roundtable will discuss the conditions of jewelry design in Slovenia, sustainability, tradition, craftsmanship, networking, and future challenges and opportunities in this field. The roundtable will be hosted at Center Rog on Thursday, May 16th.
This year's Slovenian Jewelry Week invites everyone with a diverse program where all jewelry enthusiasts are sure to find something for themselves.
