Summer Community Kitchen: Slovenian Dishes (in English)
24. 7. 2026
You are warmly invited to the Community Kitchen, an interactive culinary experience where local and international participants come together to explore Slovenian culture through food. Together, we will discover how Slovenian cuisine developed at the crossroads of Alpine, Pannonian, and Mediterranean worlds, where simple, seasonal ingredients intertwine with traditions passed down through generations.
During the workshop, we will prepare three traditional dishes that vividly reflect the diversity of Slovenia’s culinary landscape:
- Buckwheat žganci, a traditional dish made from buckwheat flour, which served as a staple of the Slovenian rural diet for centuries,
- Mushroom soup, made from fresh or dried mushrooms, reflecting the close connection between Slovenian cuisine and the forest,
- Apple strudel made from homemade stretched dough, one of the most beloved desserts in the wider Central European region.
Through hands-on cooking, tasting, and conversation, we will create a space for sharing knowledge, stories, and experiences, while developing community cooking as a contemporary social practice. The workshop will be held in English and is open to a wide range of participants, with particular attention given to inclusivity.
Join us in co-creating an open and collaborative environment, where food becomes a shared language of connection.
The Summer Community Kitchen is a continuation of a pilot project launched this spring in the Cooking Lab of Center Rog, in collaboration with ZRC SAZU and immigrant associations in Slovenia. The project aims to foster connection through food, the exchange of experiences, and the exploration of diverse cultures.
