At Center Rog, we have launched the project Culture Heals: Clay in the Golden Years in collaboration with the Center Ljubljana Retirement Home. Through the project, we aim to strengthen neighbourhood cooperation, make creative activities more accessible to older people, and foster social inclusion, creative expression and intergenerational connections.

From an Exhibition Visit to Creating with Clay

The project began in September with a visit to Center Rog by residents of the Tabor and Poljane units, who explored the international exhibition Ceramics: Boundless Possibilities. This was followed by the first clay workshops at both units of the retirement home.

The Center Ljubljana Retirement Home already offers a varied programme of creative activities, including working with clay. Building on existing knowledge and exchanging experiences are therefore important parts of the project. During practical training led by mentors from Center Rog’s Ceramics Lab, the home’s occupational therapists developed their skills in clay shaping, glazing and firing. These skills will help them run a wider range of ceramics workshops independently at the home.

Creating Thoughtful Gifts Together

On Thursday, 22 October 2026, from 10.00 to 11.30, we are hosting an intergenerational morning of creativity in Center Rog’s glass annex. Together with residents of the Center Ljubljana Retirement Home, occupational therapists, Ceramics Lab mentors and Center Rog volunteers, we will make unique porcelain ornaments and greeting cards as New Year gifts for the home’s residents.

In a relaxed, friendly setting, we will explore porcelain as a creative material and try cutting and texturing techniques. The workshop is open to all generations, and no prior experience is needed. You are warmly invited to join us!

Lasting Creations for the Home

In November, the creative workshops will continue at the retirement home, where we will work with residents to make unique ceramic tiles to decorate coffee tables. The table frames are being made in Center Rog’s Metalworking Lab. The tables will be used in both units of the home.

The project is funded by the City of Ljubljana.
