Mini Worlds: Create Your Own Terrarium

This workshop is designed for children who would like to discover how tiny ecosystems work and create their own terrarium in a glass container. A terrarium is a miniature natural world where plants thrive in their own environment with just a little care. It is also a beautiful decorative piece to take home.

We will begin by learning what terrariums are, how they work, which plants are suitable for them, and how to care for them. In the Glass & Ceramics Lab, participants will decorate their glass container using an engraving technique, giving it a personal touch.

Next, we will take a short walk through Center Rog Park to collect natural materials suitable for our terrariums. Using selected plants, moss, stones and other natural elements, each participant will create a unique miniature ecosystem to take home.

During the workshop, participants will learn:

• the basics of creating and maintaining a terrarium,
• which plants and natural materials are suitable,
• the basics of glass engraving,
• how to build a balanced miniature ecosystem.

About the mentor

Rok Oblak is an independent designer and maker working with natural materials and biocomposites. He is the founder of the Salto Dionys brand and collaborates with the Krater collective and Levo Workshop, where he also has his studio.

Participants should gather in the entrance hall of Center Rog 15 minutes before the workshop begins. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers, which the mentor will show you. Please arrive on time, as late arrivals disrupt the workshop and access to the lab cannot be guaranteed.

The workshop is held in Slovenian unless stated otherwise.

If the workshop is cancelled, participants will be informed two days before the scheduled start.

Participation fees are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your place to another person. Please let us know at least 24 hours before the workshop by emailing steklokeramika@center-rog.si.
