For Beekeepers – Making a Snelgrove Board
20. 6. 2025

The Snelgrove Board or Divider is a useful tool for any beekeeper working with modular (super) hives. It is used to prepare colonies for nectar flow, to prevent swarming, and to rejuvenate bee colonies. The method was first described by Leonard E. Snelgrove in 1934 in his book Swarming: Its Control and Prevention, originally intended to prevent swarming by separating the queen from the brood.
At the workshop, led by beekeeper and woodworking master Dejan Pečnik, a member of the Urban Beekeeper Association, you will learn how to make the Snelgrove board yourself. You will also receive practical tips on how and when to use it during the beekeeping season. We also use it in the rooftop hives at the Center Rog!
Just like in beekeeping, when it comes to making the Snelgrove board, practice makes perfect!
