Repeat pattern printing (in Slovenian)
30. 4. 2026
In this course, we will learn how to turn illustrations, collages, or photographs into a repeating textile pattern (rapport) suitable for digital fabric printing. With your pattern, you will be able to print on fabric, which can later be used for various textile projects – from clothing and decorative pillows to bedding or tablecloths.
Course structure
Session 1:
We will start the course by exploring interesting examples of work by textile designers and illustrators, which will serve as inspiration for your creation. Then you will begin designing the basic pattern unit. A wide range of materials will be available for collage and creation: colored papers, interesting leftover materials from other Center rog labs (e.g., wood veneer or thin foils), as well as the option to draw illustrations and decorative motifs. You are also welcome to bring flat materials from which you would like to create your pattern.
Session 2:
In the next step, the created motifs will be scanned and digitally processed in the Affinity software. It will be easiest if you bring a laptop. If you do not have one, we can provide one in the Textile Lab – please notify us in advance at tekstil@center-rog.si.
Session 3 – Digital Printing:
In the final part of the course, the prepared patterns will be set up in the digital printing program, correctly arranged into a repeating pattern (rapport), and printed on the Mimaki digital printer. We will also cover post-processing of the print (fixing in a steamer). Due to workflow, the final session will be held in two groups.
Each participant will be able to print 2 meters of cotton fabric with their own pattern, which can later be used in a personal textile project – for example, for a garment, decorative pillows, or unique bedding.
