This time we will venture into the world of glass and create unique decorative coasters for glasses, using the traditional Tiffany stained glass technique.

This is a special stained glass artwork technique developed in the 19th century by the American designer Louis Comfort Tiffany. In this technique, individual pieces of glass are wrapped in a thin copper foil, which allows for thinner joints and more precise details. The Tiffany technique is particularly popular with artists because it can be used to create more complex patterns and organic motifs such as flowers, birds and other figures.

In this workshop we will learn about the whole process of creating a Tiffany stained glass window - from planning and preparing a technical sketch to the final production. First, we will conceive the design and prepare templates for cutting the glass parts. The glass will be cut and sanded precisely, and then the individual pieces will be joined together with soldering irons to create the perfect base. If you wish, you will be able to further finish the finished product by patinating the joints. This workshop is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to learn the basics of stained glass and create unique coasters.

About the mentor:

The workshop will be led by Nika Šantej, glass and ceramics designer. In the field of ceramics, she covers the technique of hand-forming and casting clay into one-piece and multi-part moulds. In glass design, she covers fusing and slumping glass, casting glass into moulds, shaping glass over a flame and the Tiffany stained glass technique.
