Advanced Winter Coat Sewing Course

Although courses at the Center Rog only start in October and November, we are opening the autumn season already in September with an advanced winter coat sewing course – so that your coat will be ready well before the real winter arrives.

Together, we will create a classic, made-to-measure coat – a high-quality garment that will keep you warm for many seasons and perfectly match your style. In the course, you will learn all the key techniques – from drafting a basic pattern to precision detailing.

Under the guidance of your mentors, you will:

• Draft a basic coat pattern
• Cut the fabric
• Make welt pockets with flaps, a notched collar, and a back vent
• Correctly insert the lining and finish all details to a professional standard

By the end of the course, you will take home a professionally crafted classic winter coat, tailored to your measurements and sewn from the fabric of your choice.

The course will be led by Karmen Gombač – fashion designer, master of pattern-making, sewing, and expert in numerous textile techniques and technologies – and Uroš Topić – head of the Textile Lab, textile and fashion designer, tailor, and specialist in historical garments.

Prerequisites

The course is intended for participants with advanced sewing skills and basic pattern-making knowledge. Suitable for those who have attended previous sewing course modules.

Training

This course counts as training for operating a sewing workstation.

Fabric & Material Guidelines

Materials are not included in the course fee. You will need:

• Main fabric: non-stretch coat wool (twice the length of the coat + 50 cm; approx. 250–300 cm in total, depending on coat length)
• Lining: heavier viscose lining (sleeve length + coat length; approx. 200 cm)
• Buttons: decided at the first meeting
• Thread: matching color (white and black thread available at the lab)

Payment in Two Installments:
For courses costing over €100, payment can be made in two installments. Payment is possible in the Made in Rog shop or via bank transfer upon request by emailing tajnistvo@center-rog.si.

Participants gather 15 minutes before the scheduled start in the Center Rog entrance lobby. Please store personal belongings in lockers, as shown by your mentor. Don’t be late for the program, as it disrupts the work process.. In case of late arrival, we cannot guarantee entry to the lab.

The program is conducted in Slovenian unless stated otherwise. If the course is cancelled, you will be notified two days in advance.

Fees are non-refundable and dates cannot be rescheduled. You may transfer your place to another person by notifying us at least 24 hours before the start via tekstil@center-rog.si.
