Carpentry Course – From the Forest to a Wooden Stool

The program is designed to promote the knowledge of traditional crafts that are disappearing. It encourages environmental preservation and the use of natural materials such as wood. The workshop is interesting for participants with no prior knowledge as well as for those who wish to upgrade their skills.

The final result of the course is a wooden stool that participants will make independently. Along the way, they will acquire all the necessary knowledge about solid wood and woodworking.

• Module 1 (Day 1):
  
  - Lecture and introduction to everything related to solid wood|
  
  - Learning about tree species
  
  - Tree felling and cutting, drying and storage
  
  - Manual and electric tools for woodworking
  
  - Introduction to traditional woodworking techniques
  
• Module 2 (Days 2 and 3):
  
  - Description of various wood joining methods
  
  - Workshop on making various types of furniture joints for solid wood
  
  - Introduction and independent use of hand woodworking tools (various types of saws – European/Japanese, chisels, wooden mallets, etc.)
  
• Module 3 (Days 4, 5, and 6):
  
  - Independent making of a stool from solid wood
  
  - Stool design in a 1:1 scale
  
  - Drawing wood joints on wooden elements
  
  - Use of hand woodworking tools (saws, chisels, wooden mallets, etc.) and stool making
  
  - Finishing and protection with natural oil/wax
  

Duration: 6x 4-hour sessions

Prerequisite knowledge:
No prior knowledge is required.

For courses over €100, you can pay in two installments. Payment in two installments is possible at the "Made in Rog" store or by bank transfer via proforma invoice if you email us at tajnistvo@center-rog.si.

About the mentor:

The workshop will be led by Dejan Pfeifer, a self-employed cultural creator with the title of designer. He has been designing and making solid wood furniture under the brand Studio DREVO since 1994. His work is presented at numerous solo and group exhibitions in Slovenia and abroad, where he has received international awards.

The meeting point for participants is 15 minutes before the scheduled time in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers, which the mentor will show you. Please do not be late, as it disrupts the working process. Unfortunately, we cannot allow entry into the lab if you are late.

The program will be conducted in Slovenian unless otherwise stated.

In case of cancellation, we will notify you two days before the planned start.

If you cannot attend the program, the participation fee is non-refundable, and it’s not possible to change the date. You can transfer your participation to someone else, but please notify us at least 24 hours before the program starts via email: les@center-rog.si
