Chess

At the workshop, we will create a wooden chessboard with chess pieces. Chess is one of the oldest and most valued strategic games in the world, developing logical thinking, planning, and patience.

Children will first make the chessboard by gluing pieces of light and dark veneer onto a wooden board, thus creating the playing field. Then, they will make the chess pieces from wooden strips by cutting out the basic shapes representing the individual pieces, drilling holes if necessary, and finally sanding and finishing everything.

Throughout the entire process, they will try their hand at manual wood shaping and get acquainted with various processing techniques. We will use hand and orbital saws, drill holes, glue wooden parts, and finally sand the products.

In doing so, they will develop manual skills, patience, and precision, while exploring the world of manual work in a fun way.

The workshop is intended for children aged 8 and older.

About the mentors:

The workshop will be led by Mira Lavtar, a mentor in the woodworking lab.

Participants are asked to gather 15 minutes before the scheduled start time in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers shown to you by the mentor. Please do not be late, as this disrupts the work process. In case of lateness, entry to the lab cannot be guaranteed.

The program is conducted in Slovenian, except where otherwise noted.

In case of cancellation, we will notify you two days before the planned start.

If you cannot attend the program, the fee is non-refundable, and rescheduling is not possible. You can transfer your participation to another person, about which please notify us at least 24 hours before the start of the program at les@center-rog.si
