In this lecture, which will take place as part of the Slovenian Jewelry Week SIJW 2025, we will focus on the talisman in contemporary jewelry. The lecturer Milica Bubanja will take us through the history of talismans, and we will also touch upon the question of what a talisman is, what part of the human psyche it addresses and what its function is in the modern world.

The lecture will be held in Slovene.

About the lecturer:

Milica Bubanja was born in Belgrade, at a time when the Yugoslav rock scene, an alternative way of thinking and living, was flourishing. She grew up between the Balkan metropolis, then a centre of culture and art, and a small sleepy town in Peru, bordering Ecuador, where the Pacific Ocean washes its shores. The magic of South America gave meaning to her European spirit and turned her into a kind of modern alchemist. She expresses this wonder, instilled deep in the core of her being, through her jewelry creations and her first love - writing. In the process of making jewelry and the stories that follow, the primeval forest and the concrete breathe through her lungs in the same rhythm.

She has learned from the best jewelry makers in Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic and Germany, and has adapted these skills to her own needs. Jewelry making has its heavenly and earthly dimensions, and the artist directs them with his skilful hand. Fortunately, the heavenly dimension has always been available to her. It whispered to her whenever she closed her eyes through poetry, mythology, symbols and alternative teachings. Sometimes her dreams inspired a unique piece of jewelry and the whole concept behind it. She is in love with forests, rivers and seas, birds and wildlife, which can be seen in the organic textures and shapes she uses. She also transforms people's life stories into customised products. He invokes his celestial dimension and binds symbols, crystals and shapes on an ethereal canvas, turning such a piece of jewelry into a source of everyday magic.
