A course on making a silver signet ring using the lost wax technique

Discover the lost wax technique and create your own unique ring!

In this expert course, we will guide you through the entire process of making a silver signet ring, from the first sketches to the final finishing.

The price includes the wax, while additional costs for silver will be charged based on usage.

What is the lost wax technique?
It is an ancient metalworking technique that has been used in goldsmithing and sculpture for centuries. In this method, an exact model of jewelry is made from wax, which is then surrounded by plaster. When the wax melts and "disappears" in the furnace, a cavity remains in the mold, into which molten silver is poured. After cooling and removing the plaster, we get a silver cast, which is then refined into a finished product.

Course schedule (3 sessions, 3 hours each):

Session 1:

• Brief introduction to the history and symbolism of signet rings
• Sketching ideas and designing the shape
• Shaping the ring from wax using hand tools

Session 2:

• Continuing work on the wax model and refining details
• Preparing the model for casting
  
  (The casting of the silver will occur between the second and third sessions.)

Session 3:

• Working with metal: sawing, grinding, and filing the silver ring
• Refining details with a micromotor
• Polishing and finishing to a high shine

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for anyone who has already completed the Goldsmithing Table 1 course or has prior experience in jewelry making.

About the mentor:

The course will be led by Dalija Sega, an academic sculptor and jewelry designer, who has mastered the lost wax technique and has been designing jewelry with it for over 17 years.

Courses costing more than € 100 can be paid in two instalments. Payment in two instalments is possible in the "Made in Rog" shop or by bank transfer by invoice if you email us at tajnistvo@center-rog.si.

Participants should gather 15 minutes before the scheduled time in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers, which will be shown to you by the instructor. Please do not be late, as it disrupts the workflow. If you are late, we cannot guarantee entry to the lab.

The program will be conducted in Slovenian, unless stated otherwise.

In case of cancellation, we will notify you two days before the planned start.

If you cannot attend, we do not offer refunds, and rescheduling is not possible. You can transfer your participation to another person, but please inform us at least 24 hours before the program begins via email at nakit@center-rog.si.
