The exhibition Biomaterials in Practice presents the research work of the Green Lab in the field of biomaterials development. Biomaterials are materials derived from natural sources or produced through biological processes, offering new possibilities for the development of material practices.

The exhibition will feature samples of biomaterials created in the Green Lab programs or developed by independent users of the laboratories. Among them are materials made from organic waste streams in the Food and Wood Labs or in collaboration with living organisms such as fungi and bacteria.

The exhibition offers insight into experimental practices that explore new ways of working with materials and raises questions about how natural processes and resource reuse can contribute to the development of materials for the future.

The exhibition was conceptually designed by Julija Karas, industrial designer and mentor in the Green Lab, and Maruša Ramšak, biotechnologist and head of the Green Lab.

At the reception, we will also refresh ourselves with kombucha – a culture of microorganisms that forms the characteristic “SCOBY” during fermentation, which has recently become of interest in biomaterials research.
