Nikolaj Salaj represents a younger generation defined not by a single discipline, but by curiosity. Trained as an architect, he now works at the intersection of space, technology, and materials, creating projects ranging from the FOLDS brand to spatial experiences for global clients in Berlin. His practice moves between local and international contexts, between craftsmanship and robotics, and between tradition and algorithmic systems. He is interested in how material movement becomes a dialogue partner and how technology expands design decision-making.

In the conversation, he will speak about his beginnings in architecture, collaboration with master craftsmen, and working across different cultural contexts, as well as the challenges of design that is simultaneously physical, digital, and time-bound. Today, he develops experiences for brands such as Nike, BMW, Patek Philippe, and Sony. Nikolaj understands design as an open system—as a way of observing, responding, and connecting.

The conversation will be moderated by Katjuša Kranjc.

The Design at the center program, prepared by DCLJ in collaboration with Center Rog, strengthens the role of both partners within the design community and makes an important contribution to the development of a vibrant creative dialogue in the city.
