For all cyclists – this spring we are launching a series of three workshops on making waterproof bags for your bikes! Make your cycling adventures in the warmer months even more enjoyable with custom-made bags for food, drinks, small tools, extra gear, and more.

In the first workshop of the series, we will make a smaller waterproof bag that can be attached to your handlebars or worn across your shoulder. It is suitable for storing essential tools and other small items. During the workshop, we will cover the principles of cutting and assembling small bags, working on sewing and bartack machines, seam taping for waterproofing, and basic design and construction principles.

This workshop is the first in a series of three and serves as a great springboard into the world of functional products for all sewing beginners. The basics we learn here will also be useful in the following workshops.

Workshop Dates

3 sessions, 4 hours each:

  • Wednesday, March 4, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Thursday, March 5, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Friday, March 6, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Prior Experience?

NO, no prior experience is required.

Does the workshop count as training?

YES, by attending the workshop you will also receive training for the sewing station.

Material Guidelines

The material for the bag is included in the workshop price: Challenge sailcloth ECOPAK™ EPLX 400 in white or black for the bag body, and most of the hardware will be provided in black. If you want a different material, you can purchase it yourself. If you buy your own fabric, please follow these guidelines:

  • Fabric should be heavier, waterproof, coated, or laminated (ECOPAK, X PAC). If you want to use the seam taping available in the lab, you must purchase material from the Challenge EPLX series. For fabrics with PU, TPU, or AC coating, you also need the corresponding seam tape.
  • How much fabric to buy? You need fabric equal to the desired bag width + bag depth x2 + 5 cm. The standard bag for the workshop is approximately 25 cm wide. For special requests (different zipper or strap colors), please consult the lab mentors beforehand at tekstil@center-rog.si.

About the Mentors

The workshop will be led by the Textile Lab mentors:

Mark Cvelbar, Textile Lab mentor, expert in functional patterns and materials, outdoor gear, and clothing repair.

Karmen Gombač, fashion designer, master of pattern-making, sewing, and various textile techniques and technologies.

***

Participants should arrive 15 minutes before the program starts in the main lobby of Center Rog. Please store personal belongings in the lockers, which will be shown by the mentor. Do not be late, as late entry cannot be guaranteed and disrupts the workflow.

The program is conducted in Slovenian, except where stated otherwise.

The program is intended for participants aged 14 and older, unless stated otherwise.

If we need to cancel the workshop, you will be informed two days before the scheduled start.

If you cannot attend, the fee is non-refundable and the date cannot be changed, but your spot can be transferred to another person if you notify us at least 24 hours in advance at tekstil@center-rog.si.

We look forward to your company and creative collaboration!
