Bobbin lace meet up for kids and youth

Would you like to create beautiful lace, learn new skills, and enjoy great company?

Join our bobbin lace meet up, where we will discover together the art of intertwining threads on a lace pillow.

Bobbin lace is an old and beautiful art of making lace, originating from various parts of Europe. In Slovenia, the most famous is Idrija lace – a symbol of Slovenian craftsmanship and creativity, which is even listed as UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. In the meet up, we will learn the basic techniques, get to know the tools, and gradually create beautiful patterns you can proudly show to your family and friends.

In the meet up, we will develop:

• Creativity and imagination: with each new lace piece, you can design your own pattern.
• Hand skills: lace-making improves precision and hand coordination.
• Perseverance and patience: learning new techniques is fun and gives a sense of achievement.
• Social skills: we will work in small groups, helping each other and learning together.

We will start with simple motifs and later explore various patterns of your own choice. All tools and materials for lace-making are provided free of charge; just bring a small box for storing pins and a cloth to cover your pillow. Come and discover the magical world of lace, where art, creativity, and fun intertwine!

Children and young people aged 6 to 15 are welcome. No prior experience is required.

Meet up dates:

Every Tuesday, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, from October 7, 2025, to the end of May 2026 (except during holidays).

Price:

60 € for the whole season. At the introductory meeting on October 7, you can decide whether to join, depending on available spots.

Mentor:

The meet up will be led by Majda Jurkovič, a preschool teacher and primary school teacher. In her free time, she enjoys various handicrafts and masters many techniques. Since her youth, she has been sewing creative handmade items for personal use.
