Isolation of Natural Pigments and Screen Printing (in Slovenian)

In this workshop, we will delve into the process of natural textile dyeing, with a special focus on pigment extraction—a step that is often overlooked but holds significant creative potential. What is typically discarded as leftover dye bath will instead become our starting point for further exploration.

Using plants, natural materials, and food-based sources, we will create dye baths and extract pigments from them, transforming these into usable materials. We will learn how to convert pigments into powdered form and combine them with different binders, opening up a wide range of applications—from painting techniques to experimental creative practices.

In the hands-on part, we will use the extracted pigments to prepare a printing paste and test it through screen printing. Each participant will develop their own unique pattern and print it onto a T-shirt to take home.

No prior experience is required. Participants are encouraged to bring plants or household organic waste (such as avocado pits and skins, beetroot peels, etc.)—together we will explore their hidden potential and discover new possibilities for working with everyday natural materials.

The workshop will be led by Green Lab mentors Maruša Ramšak and Julija Karas.

Participants should arrive 15 minutes before the start of the programme in the entrance lobby of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers, which will be shown to you by the mentor. Please do not be late, as this disrupts the working process. In case of late arrival, we unfortunately cannot guarantee entry into the lab.

The programme is held in Slovenian unless stated otherwise.

The programme is intended for participants aged 14 and above unless stated otherwise.

In case of cancellation, we will notify you two days before the scheduled start.

If you are unable to attend, participation fees are non-refundable and the date cannot be changed. You may transfer your participation to another person by informing us at least 24 hours before the start at zeleni@center-rog.si.
