Beginner's Carpentry Course - wooden chair

Why look for unique and high-quality solid wood furniture in furniture stores? Come to Center Rog and learn how to make it yourself!

In this course, we will learn how to make a chair from solid wood. We will learn how to choose the right wood and how to shape a piece of furniture. We will get acquainted with various woodworking tools, both hand tools and machines, as well as other equipment used in a woodworking workshop. We will shape our unique piece of furniture using different techniques such as sawing, planing, and sanding. At the end, we will also learn how to make wax to finish our product, and if desired, we can also paint it.

ALL MATERIAL IS INCLUDED IN THE COURSE FEE.

In 10 sessions, we will learn:

1st session:

- General rules for working in the woodworking workshop and safety measures

- Introduction to hand and electric tools: purpose, usage, safety, operation, and work procedures

- Introduction to machines: purpose, usage, safety, operation, and work procedures

2nd session:

- Introduction to machines: purpose, usage, safety, operation, and work procedures

3rd session:

- Introduction to wood and its properties

- Starting the design of the product

4th session:

- Product design and preparation of wood (cutting sawed wood, leveling, and thicknessing)

5th session:

- Preparing the wood

- Gluing and starting sanding the wood

6th session:

- Making the product

7th session:

- Making the product

8th session:

- Making the product

9th session:

- Making the product

10th session:

- Final touches, assembly, and surface treatment (painting and oiling)

The course is open to everyone interested in wood, design, and making functional wooden products. The program is intended for those over 18 years old.

Prerequisite:
NO, prior knowledge is not required.

Is the course considered training?
YES, by attending the course, you will complete training for the workstations with machines and the combination machine. Afterwards, you will be able to use these workstations independently during open sessions.

About the mentors:

The course will be led by Gal Žvab, mentor in wood lab.

Courses costing more than €100 can be paid in two installments. Payment in two installments is possible in the “Made in Rog” shop or by bank transfer after invoicing if you write to us at tajnistvo@center-rog.si.

Participants should gather 15 minutes before the scheduled start time in the entrance hall of Center Rog. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers, which the mentor will show you. Please be on time, as late arrivals disrupt the workflow. In the case of a delay, entry to the lab cannot be guaranteed.

The program will be conducted in Slovenian unless otherwise stated.

In case of cancellation, you will be notified two days before the scheduled start.

If you are unable to attend the program, the registration fee is non-refundable, and it is not possible to change the date. You can transfer your participation to another person, but please notify us at least 24 hours before the program begins at the email address: les@center-rog.si
