Clay whistle (in Slovenian)
1. 4. 2026
At the workshop we will make a whistle from clay – a simple musical instrument that combines shaping, play, and sound. During the work we will hollow, pinch, and assemble the clay until a functioning sound instrument is created.
The one-day intergenerational workshop is intended for everyone who would like to learn how one of the oldest musical instruments is made and connect creating with exploring sound. During the making we will learn at least two basic clay shaping techniques – hollowing and pinching.
Each participant will make a clay whistle with a single opening, which can be shaped into different forms. Precision and correct technical execution are important, as the shape of the resonance chamber and the path of the air determine whether the whistle will also sound nice. The workshop therefore connects shaping, play, sound, and a basic understanding of the physics of sound.
You will take home a functioning clay whistle made from high-temperature stoneware, created entirely according to your own idea. No prior knowledge is required.
