Join us for a hands-on course where we’ll explore the world of ceramic glazes. We’ll share knowledge and experiences with glazing, learn how to troubleshoot common issues, and delve into the role of metallic oxides in glazes. You’ll gain insight into glaze density and viscosity, and learn how to tackle problems such as glaze or bisque cracking, uneven surfaces, pinholes in glazes…

Participants will help shape the content together with the mentor by contributing questions and discussion topics. You are welcome to bring in pieces with glaze defects, which we will analyse together to find solutions and prevent similar issues in the future. We’ll also make test tiles as a basis for experimenting with different metallic oxides in prepared transparent glazes. The fired tests will be reviewed during the final session, summarising what we’ve learned.

  • 1st session: Introduction, overview of glazing consistency and common mistakes. Participant questions.
  • 2nd session: Demonstration and analysis of participant pieces with glaze issues. Learning from mistakes.
  • 3rd session: Test tile production using multiple techniques.
  • 4th session: Mixing metallic oxides into two prepared transparent glazes. Each glaze has different dominant fluxes, which will affect the results. Application of glazes onto test tiles.
  • 5th session: Review and analysis of test results.

*All materials are included in the price.
