Community Kitchen: Flavours of African Roots

In Community Kitchen, we will explore African flavours and family stories by preparing food together. This intergenerational gathering brings together girls with African roots and their parents. Three pairs, each a girl and one parent, will take over the cooking stations.

The participating families proposed the menu. We will prepare creamy sweet potato and ginger soup, the Gambian peanut sauce domodo, coconut rice from the culinary tradition of a family with Comorian and Slovenian roots, a sweet-and-sour mango, avocado and cucumber salsa, and chakri, a yoghurt and couscous dessert.

Around the shared table, we will connect generations, explore cultural diversity and exchange stories about the dishes we make at home.

The programme is organised with APIS Institute, which promotes social inclusion and intercultural dialogue through creative, educational and community programmes, particularly for young people, migrants and people with fewer opportunities.

About the mentors

Families with African roots will take part in the cooking in collaboration with APIS Institute.

Participants should gather in the entrance hall of Center Rog 15 minutes before the programme begins. Please store your personal belongings in the lockers indicated by the mentor. Do not be late, as this disrupts the working process. In case of late arrival, entry to the lab cannot be guaranteed.

In case of cancellation, you will be notified two days before the planned start of the programme.

If you are unable to attend the programme, the fee is non-refundable and the date cannot be changed. You may transfer your place to another person by notifying us at least 24 hours before the start at kuhanje@center-rog.si.
