The participants of the course will, through weekly workshops under the guidance of experienced potter Vid Polončič, learn basic techniques of clay throwing on the potter's wheel. They will use essential pottery tools derived from the Slovenian pottery tradition and incorporate them into their work. In addition to practical skills, they will develop their creativity and aesthetic sense through creation.

Course duration and age limit: 10 sessions of three hours each; for adults (16+)

The course will take place on Wednesdays from 5 pm to 8 pm, starting from March 13, 2024.

March 13, March 20, March 27, April 3, April 24, May 8, May 15, May 22, May 29, and June 5.

THE MATERIAL IS INCLUDED IN THE COURSE FEE.

Course content:

  • Basics of clay throwing: Introduction to pottery, clay preparation, and basic centering techniques on the potter's wheel.
  • Shaping basic pottery items: Shaping a cup, plate, and small vase.
  • Advanced shaping techniques: Advancing basic techniques and shaping more complex items such as pitchers, larger vases, composite, and unique shapes.
  • Glazing and decoration: Introduction to various glazes, glazing techniques, and decoration to achieve different effects on the surface of pottery items.
  • Preserving traditional pottery procedures: Introduction to the use of traditional tools and techniques of manual clay shaping.

The goal of the course is for participants to gain solid foundations in pottery, understand the clay shaping process, and be able to independently create various pottery items. Each participant will have the opportunity to discover their unique creative expression and learn how to translate their ideas into unique ceramic creations.

Is prior knowledge required for the course?

NO, the course is intended for pottery enthusiasts, regardless of prior experience, and is suitable for both beginners who want to learn basic skills and those who want to upgrade their knowledge and perfect their clay shaping technique on the potter's wheel.

About the mentor:

Vid Polončič is the founder and head of the Lončič Pottery studio and an experienced potter with over a decade of experience in pottery. He is one of the few who uses and teaches the old Slovenian pottery technique, including the use of a leather strap for centering and shaping clay on the potter's wheel. His passion for clay and the rich Slovenian pottery heritage inspires him to passionately share his knowledge and experience in courses. He ensures an individualized approach, allowing everyone to make maximum progress according to their interests and goals in pottery.

Participants should gather 5 minutes before the agreed-upon time in the entrance hall of the Center Rog.

The course will be conducted with a minimum of 6 registrations. In case of non-execution, you will be notified at least two days before the start of the program.

We do not refund fees for our programs (except in exceptional circumstances), nor is it possible to change the date. However, participation can be transferred to another person; please notify us at least 24 hours before the start via email at steklokeramika@center-rog.si.
