Vivacomix Association and the Stripburger magazine from Ljubljana, as part of the project LONG LIVE COMICS! LONG LIVE ANIMATION! 20, are announcing a competition for comics and animation. The competition is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the City of Ljubljana – Department of Culture, and the project partners include the magazines Ciciban, Cicido, and Pil, the 2 Koluta Association, the SLON Association, RogLab, the Marindolus Club from Kranj, and the Trubar House of Literature.

RULES
The competition is open to students from the Friuli Venezia Giulia region and Slovenia.
The competition is divided into two categories:

  • Comics
  • Animation

For inspiration, we offer illustrations by Slovenian illustrator Maja Kastelic and the character Jingle Robot, created by Italian author Rosanna Murello (more information on the Stripburger website).

1) Competition theme:

a) Maja Kastelic often bases her work on existing literary works. Choose a short poem or story by a Slovenian or foreign author and recreate it in a comic strip!

b) In Milena Batič’s poem, a bunny dreams of a cabbage head, a kitten dreams of a baked cookie, and Tinček explores the wonders of the universe. What happened in your most unusual dreams? Where did you travel? Who did you meet? What was your return like?

c) Jingle Robot loves nature and enjoys exploring its hidden corners. His extraterrestrial friend often accompanies him in discovering yet-to-be-discovered parts of nature. What are the places they visit like? Are they different from real ones?

d) Free theme.

2) Submitted works may be:

a) Comic stories drawn in any technique (including digital) in A3 format, with any number of pages.

b) Animations in traditional or digital technique.

3) Registration:

Students can apply individually or in groups, with or without a mentor.

4) Submission of works:

Works must be submitted by mail along with the completed application form (for Slovenian students) to the address:
Stripburger/Forum Ljubljana, Metelkova 6, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia.
