Launching Creative Glass Lab Slovenia: Brittle Stories

Creative Glass Labs is a programme developed within the European project Glassmaking Tradition Meets Innovation, bringing together partners from Slovenia, Serbia and Denmark. The project explores how traditional glassmaking knowledge can be developed and carried forward through contemporary design, new technologies and sustainable approaches.

Creative labs are taking place in all three partner countries, bringing together young designers, artists and other creatives. The Slovenian Creative Glass Lab, hosted at the Glass Lab of Center Rog under the title Brittle Stories, explores how found, discarded or forgotten glass can be given a new life. Participants will investigate how the material’s properties, traces of use and the stories it carries can become the starting point for new, functional and aesthetically refined objects.

Over the course of the three-day programme, participants will also explore Slovenia’s glassmaking heritage – from the historic glassworks of the Pohorje region and museum collections to contemporary glass design – while experimenting with a range of glassworking techniques, including fusing, kiln casting, flameworking, Tiffany stained glass and coldworking. The programme is led by artists Nina Savič and Brina Steblovnik.
