The bees residing on the roof of Center Rog have finished foraging with the arrival of cold and rainy weather and are preparing for winter hibernation. In the first beekeeping season, we harvested approximately 20 kilograms of urban honey.

On the roof of Center Rog, two urban beehives are installed, hosting two bee colonies. We take care of them through the Urban Beekeeping Society, which advocates for the promotion and establishment of urban beekeeping in Slovenia, as well as raising awareness about the importance of bees and other pollinators in the city. A member of the society and a beekeeping apprentice who regularly visits the bees on the roof is Renata Zamida, the director of Center Rog. The honey is harvested with the help of urban beekeeper and activity leader Gorazd Trušnovec, who this year obtained the organic beekeeper certificate, making the honey from the roof of Center Rog the first organic certified honey in Ljubljana.

The honey harvest was extracted and bottled in the Green Lab of Center Rog. This year's honey has a rich taste of chestnut and lime, as the nearest forage for our bees comes from chestnut trees on Castle Hill and the linden flowers planted along Petkovškovo nabrežje. The most appropriate label for urban honey is mixed honey—bees in the city forage in urban parks, on balcony flowers, grasslands that are not mowed in the summer, along tree avenues, and on surrounding hills (Rožnik, Golovec, Šišenski Hill), collecting anything that comes their way.

Urban honey is a boutique product. The label for the jars was designed by Nejc Prah, and the illustration of the bees was contributed by Matija Medved.

A limited quantity of urban honey from the roof of Center Rog is available at the Made in Rog store on Petkovškovo nabrežje.
