Designer in Residency 2025

The Designer in Residency program is intended for designers, innovators, artisans, and creators working outside Slovenia. The residents will develop their work in harmony with the theme of this year’s Rog Design Days, Borders and Frictions — exploring complex and intertwined issues arising from physical, political, cultural, or technological boundaries and the conflicts around them.

The public call, which received 30 applications, was open until March 3, 2025. A professional committee selected three designers for the residency, who will join the 3.5-month residency at Center Rog starting in August 2025.

The selected residents are:

  • Chiaki Shimizu (Japan), a professional costume designer, fashion designer, and contemporary artist. In her work, she explores philosophical and historical aspects of clothing as a medium of expression and creates site-specific installations using various media—from video to photography. • Daniela Doe (Sweden) is a graphic and textile designer based in Malmö. Her practice blends experimental graphic design with traditional textile techniques such as hand tufting, sewing, and printing. During the residency, she will develop a project exploring how graphic design can become a tangible, tactile, and emotionally engaging experience. (Website, Instagram)
  • Anna Resei (Austria) is a designer who combines abstraction with functionality in her practice. She creates interiors and objects that merge digital aesthetics with physical materiality, drawing inspiration from classical textile techniques. Anna Resei will also participate in the Rog Design Days also as a designer for the Creathon challenge Crafting Objects for a Nomadic World which will take place in the textile and metal labs of Center Rog. The results of the residencies will be showcased in the Rog Expo exhibition, which will open at Center Rog on 12th November 2025.
