Answers to questions related to the public call for the design of a memorial monument in the Park izbrisanih

We are answering questions regarding the memorial in Park izbrisanih. We will respond to all questions and update the list of answers regularly. The deadline for submitting questions is February 9, 2023.

How large should the memorial be? Does it need to be placed exactly on the cross marked in the plan, or can it cover a larger area?

The memorial must be placed at the designated location. It may also extend to other parts of the green "island" where the memorial is marked, but no more than a 4-meter radius from the marked cross into the green area (see image above). The height of the design proposals should be limited to a maximum of 2 meters.

Can the benches in the park be replaced with elements of the memorial that can be used for seating?

Yes, as the memorial is intended to be a (functional) urban furnishing element, it can serve as a seating area and be placed on the new urban green space.

What kind of trees are planned, and what are the types – fruit or others, or none, and the planned height and dimensions of the crowns?

Near the memorial, there is already a tree, an ash. Additionally, two trees are planned to be planted: a black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) and a rowan (Sorbus aria).

Can electrical wiring be included for the memorial?

There will be electrical wiring at the site of the memorial.

Is it possible to obtain a DWG or AI file of the park's plan so that the memorial proposal can be spatially placed directly?

Is it possible to install water infrastructure on the green island? What are the limitations regarding the depth of intervention in the green island?

On the eastern part of the green area where the memorial is planned, there is a water drinking fountain with mechanical installations and an irrigation shaft. From there, it might be possible to install water, which is also planned for park irrigation. However, this would need to be coordinated with the mechanical installation designers, and the distances from trees and urban furniture (benches, if they remain in place) must be taken into account. New trees are planned near the site, as well as an existing tree with a wide root system (if we can preserve it, which is our goal). We suggest that the intervention depth should not exceed the required depth for foundations in frost-resistant layers (80-90 cm below the finished terrain). If the proposal includes a water feature, it will be necessary to consider mechanical installations and sewage. Any limitations or requirements for these should be consulted with project designers if such a solution is chosen. Therefore, we cannot confirm the implementation of a water feature due to potential additional costs (mechanical installations, sewage). If you submit a proposal with a water feature, we recommend that an alternative proposal without water is also considered.

The composition of the terrain in the area of the green space planned for the memorial is as follows:

• Green area (lawn turf)
  
• Growing medium (15 cm of humus layer; 25 cm of quality sandy brown soil)
  
• Buffer (minimum 30 cm)
  
• Compacted grown terrain
  

What are the elevation points? How much does the terrain slope from Trubarjeva Street towards the park?

The DWG situation provided for the tender includes the elevation points and contours of the terrain. The terrain from S – Trubarjeva Street towards the Center Rog building continuously slopes at an incline of 4.4%, meaning that the terrain drops by 1.1 m from the top edge of the green area at the street sidewalk to the bottom edge of the green area of the park entrance (by the drain) over a distance of approximately 24.8 m.

Can we remove the existing trees in the green island designated for the memorial?

Full removal of the trees is not planned. The removal of an individual tree must be justified in the proposal.

Can we change the planting in the green island (number of trees, position, type)?

It is not planned or desired to change the planting, but you can justify such a solution in your proposal.

Can we modify the shape or boundary of the green island?

It is not planned or desired. If modifications are necessary, they should be minimal.

Should the authorship statement be submitted on a USB drive together with other materials, or only as a sealed envelope?

The authorship statement should be submitted separately in a sealed envelope.

Definition of all costs and participants in the project – does this mean listing the authors and estimating the investment (Appendices 1 and 2), or is it necessary to list all the planned construction contractors?

It is not necessary to list the construction contractors, but it is necessary to list or define the costs of construction works.
