Makers in Residency 2026: Open Call For Local and International Creatives
Over the past five years, major cities worldwide have experienced up to a 50% increase in extreme heat days. As urban environments continue to overheat, shading has become an urgent necessity. This year’s edition of the Makers in Residency programme invites makers to collectively respond to one of the most tangible consequences of global warming. Through a hands-on, collaborative design-and-build process, participants will develop an adaptable, modular shading structure for the future community café in Park izbrisanih, located within Center Rog’s Green Area.
The residency will take place online and in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from the end of May to the beginning of June (find a detailed programme in the open call documentation).
We will select up to ten participants (individual makers or collectives) from diverse disciplines to take part in the residency.
The final design will be published under a Creative Commons licence, enabling others to freely reproduce, adapt, and further develop it across different contexts.
We encourage applications from makers working across design, architecture, engineering, craft, digital fabrication, and related fields, as well as from those interested in climate-responsive and community-oriented making.
